We Participate in the 340B Program

The 340B Program is defined by federal regulations requiring drug manufacturers to sell outpatient drugs to eligible healthcare centers, clinics, and hospitals (also called Covered Entities) at reduced costs. This requirement is described in Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act, which was enacted in 1992 to provide financial relief to those facilities that provide care to the medically underserved.

Spectrum is enrolled with the Office of Pharmacy Affairs as a Covered Entity and complies with regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure that 340B drugs are purchased and used by eligible Covered Entities and dispensed to eligible patients.

The intent of the 340B Program is to permit covered entities “to stretch scarce Federal resources as far as possible, reaching more eligible patients and providing more comprehensive services.” To this end, Spectrum has implemented a 340B Pharmacy Program that benefits our most vulnerable patient population, supports our core mission, and ensures ongoing 340B compliance in line with HRSA guidelines.

The Spectrum 340B program accomplishes these goals by enhancing and supplementing existing Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM), including Medical Case Management, medication adherence counseling, and linkage to and coordination of medical care. Spectrum utilizes 340B program savings to support operating expenses for our agency, which provides care to underserved populations, homeless, uninsured/underinsured, and patients living with chronic disease processes.
